Codependency / Limerance Therapy
“Finally, this is the one!”
One minute, you’re plugging along, then BAM! They appear.
Instant connection.
Fireworks.
It’s “the one” you’ve always been waiting for.
Then, those fuzzy feelings change.
Uncertainty sets in. “They’re not losing interest in me, are they?”
You ache for relief; the anxiety mounts. Then, you get that reassuring text…
Ah… relief! Things are better now.
But it doesn’t last long before…
The next “love drought” begins.
Nothing seems to satisfy your longing for them – your NEED for them.
You feel like you’re crazy and anxious all the time. It hurts. Your stomach is in knots.
Your work, family, friends – they all take a backseat to “the one.”
Move that important appointment…
Cancel your afternoon…
Forget your needs…
Anything not to feel the distance… because you’re lost at sea until they’re with you again.
Before long, they start becoming distant.
They physically separate… and they seem to care less than before.
You can sense it, and it’s driving you crazy. The despair, loneliness, and helplessness return.
You can’t believe you’re here again, desperate because you’ll never meet anyone that special again.
And so on, and so on…
Is this the record of your life, spinning the same tune over and over again?
It’s wild how you can be so competent, composed, and sane in all other areas of your life, but you play into this same love cycle ALL the time.
You realize there’s an issue, but it’s hard to know what to do about it.
Well, you’ve come to the right place!
Chances are you’re looking for something you needed but never got in childhood.
In therapy, we’ll parse out the differences between being a romantic (not a bad thing!) and having a deeper, unmet need we insist on resolving in a partner.
Identifying the hopes and expectations we place on a potential mate can help illuminate what we’re doing (however unconsciously) to create impossible situations. The technical term for what you might be experiencing is “Limerance,” which is a fancy way of saying “love compulsion.”
You’ll reduce the likelihood of falling into another repetitive rollercoaster when you’re attuned to your inner state before jumping headfirst into someone else’s world.
Let’s change your future path.
Therapy can break these cycles and build your confidence. Let’s get in touch with your inner world, repair, and rebalance so you’re not getting into these destructive “love rides.”If you’ve recently found yourself head over heels… then found yourself heels over head…
